Property Gala of the year!

20th October 2017

Thursday 12th October the evening of the year in the Southampton property sector, the Southampton Property Association and Southern Daily Echo held its annual gala charity dinner at St Mary’s Stadium.

Property professionals were invited in from 7pm to the champagne drinks reception where networking and photographs took place. The evening started when everyone was seated just after 7:30pm and Nella Pang, chairwoman of the SPA was invited up to say a few words about the past year in property, thank people for attending the Gala and invite both chosen charities up to say a few words. After this the first set of entertainment started which was the heads and tails game in which the lucky winner won a wine cooler and two bottles of wine, kindly donated by Smile4Wessex one of the chosen charities for the evening.

Smile4Wessex; a charitable support for the Wessex Neurological Centre. Enhancing the range and quality of patient care and sponsoring pioneering research. The second chosen charity of the evening was NewstrAID which is the news trade's own charity, for the benefit of individuals in the retailing and distribution section of the newspaper and magazine publishing industry.

After the starter and main courses were enjoyed, Mike Osman the compare for the evening asked everyone to look for a red sticker under one attendee’s cup at the table – the person who had this - won the Monopoly game in the centre of the table (Table prizes kindly donated by HomeHub Southampton), Monopoly was also the theme of the evening in which dotted around the room were giant dice, property boards and top hat decorations.

After dessert was finished Mike then moved onto the main money raising part of the evening – the auction! Auction prizes included one week stay in Tenerife Golfing apartment; Signed Saints Shirt with tickets to a match; Beneteau Yacht Charter day; Helicopter flight over Lee on Solent; local radio station tour and many more fantastic items. All auction items went and in the case of the Beneteau it went twice raising over £1100 each time for charity!

Once Mike had finished raising as much money as he could from the auction – he gave the lucky property-goers a taste of his very own stand up including impressions of political figures and celebrities. Once Mike had finished his set he invited the Swing Unlimited Big Band (SUBB) up to start their array of jazz & modern day music. The SUBB also played at the SPA/BPA Summer ball earlier in the year and attendees enjoyed their music so much that the 15 piece band were invited back for the Autumn Gala – the band were kindly sponsored by solicitors Dutton Gregory.

The band drew to a close at 11:30pm when the DJ took over for property professionals to continue busting their moves on the dancefloor. Throughout the evening there was also the opportunity to see solicitors, lawyers, estate agents, developers and others show off a wild side in the photo booth (kindly sponsored by Moore Blatch solicitors), to see some of the hilarious photos go to:

The evening drew to a close at 1am when everyone left feeling thoroughly satisfied from an evening of good food, music and company.

The total figures for money raised are still being calculated however from money collected on the night from the heads and tails game, raffle and auction prizes we are hopeful to have raised a substantial amount for each charity. Watch this space.
