I’m really delighted to see so many members at this AGM going into the association’s 71st year. Nella (Pang) has left the association in a strong position and has done much to promote the connections with the other south Coast Property Associations including PPA and BPA which I will try to continue.
I am going to adopt the title of “Chair” since I believe it to be irrelevant whether the post is held by a man or a woman. I certainly won’t be burning my Bra!
It is traditional for the Chair to adopt a chosen charity to support during their term of office and I have chosen the Society of St James which is a charity working with homeless people in Southampton. I will introduce Trevor Pickup the Chief executive of SSJ who will give you a short introduction of the charity and how it aims to help raise awareness of an issue which is sadly all too apparent to many of us on the streets and car parks of the City. However I will also be continuing the support for Nella’s chosen charity, Yellow Door and furthering the aim of the SPA to replenish the benevolent fund following recent donations from it.
Finally following recent events I am sure that our members will continue to conduct themselves with dignity and professionalism. I look forward to serving the membership and working with the new committee to continue to bring you a wide and varied program of events which will build upon the success of recent years.
