Our annual CPD event last month proved to be very popular with our members and their guests with all the tickets selling out. A big thank you to our fantastic line up of speakers and to Paris Smith for hosting the event.

We received an overview of the markets from our very own chairwoman Nella Pang, followed by Dawn Baxendale the Chief Executive of Southampton City Council who updated us on all the exciting developments and opportunities on offer here in our city.

David Eminton, Head of Property Litigation at Paris Smith and Allan Hilder, Director of Simpson Hilder delivered a joint talk on landlord and tenant litigation, highlighting key points for our members on commercial lease renewal and disrepair issues.

Tom Flatau from Team International flew in from Dubai that morning to deliver an engaging talk on negotiation skills. Tom shared with us much of the psychology behind negotiation explaining how our "flight or fright" mode impacts the way we enter into agreements. The Managing Director of E3 Consulting, Alun Oliver gave us a snap shot of some of his top tax tips property professionals should be aware of, concentrating specifically on community infrastructure levy and VAT. Finally our insight to industry guest this year was Michael Scott Services who closed the event by providing us with the key benefits of using LED lights.

The event which commenced with breakfast provided by Paris Smith provided an excellent opportunity for networking amongst members and the speakers and this continued at the regular Friday Frolic lunch which was held directly afterwards at the Tapas Barcelona bar sponsored by Michael Scott Services.
